I read today that the infamous North Carolina Senator, Jesse Helms, passed away yesterday on July 4. Mr. Helms was a die hard republican and fought against many programs and legislation that benefited minorities, gays and lower socio-economic communities. It was once reported that he refused to
speak with the mother of an AIDS patient when she came to Capitol Hill to discuss the AIDS epidemic. He went so far as not to speak with her while they were alone on an elevator….talking about disdain. Well, my guess is that he probably found Hell a better place to be than America with the possibility
of a black man, Barack Obama, becoming President and Chief. Senator Helms served his great state of North Carolina from 1973-1997, four long terms. It’s becoming very difficult for racists and bigots to live comfortably in America with Barack and Hillary making history. I hope that our young people will learn about Senator Helms and others like him and be encouraged to go to the polls and vote. It’s time for a “Change” we can no longer continue to allow the “Good Ole Boys” to traumatize us with their venomous attitudes which become legislation. Now is the time for us to say to them all, we will no longer allow your negativity to run our land, either you get on the bus or get ran over!!
Remember to keep your head up and love one another.
